Itinerary

We flew in to London from LA, and from there, we visited these cities:

  • Madrid, Las Palmas, and Barcelona, Spain
  • Milan and Verona, Italy
  • Lucerne, Interlaken, and Zurich, Switzerland
  • Berlin, Germany
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Paris, France
  • London, UK

The entire trip lasted approximately a month, during which we spent an average of 3-4 days in each city. Although the duration might not have been very long, it was the only way we could explore the cities housing the art and history museums we had on our to-visit list within our available travel time. In the case of London and Paris, this was our second visit, so we didn’t have to spend as much time on the basic toursts stuff in those cities, which turned out to be helpful.

Given that the theme of our trip revolved around museum exploration, our itinerary was structured around art and history museum visits. The museums we visited include:

  • The Louvre, Musee d’Orsay (Paris)
  • National Gallery (London)
  • Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum (Amsterdam)
  • Brera museum (Milan)
  • Museo del Prado (Madrid), Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (“MNAC”, Barcelona)
  • The Jewish museum, Pergamon museum (Berlin)

Between museum visits, we did throw in some fun activities, such as hiking in the beautiful Swiss Alps, enjoying beautiful beaches of Las Palmas and Barcelona in Spain, taking cooking classes in Paris and Madrid, and playing in a waterpark (Aquaboulevard in Paris).

We primarily took trains or flights to move from one city to another (the Google map image above shows as if we drove the whole route but the only time we drove was from Milan to Switzerland – which, by the way, was a beautiful road trip.)

If you’re considering visiting Europe during the summer, it’s essential to be mindful of the weather and plan your trip accordingly, especially with the ongoing challenges of climate change and global warming. We started the trip around June 20 and finished the trip around July 20. Southern Europe can be exceptionally hot in July – that’s why we started our trip in Spain and worked our way up to London.
